“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Last Sunday we headed down to the Westbottoms here in the Kansas City area for family portraits. It has been a few years since the five of us have had professional pictures taken…needless to say it has been since Jason … Continue reading →
I love Sloppy Joes, but Devin and I came to a pass when we got married because he grew up with the McCormick seasoning packet and I grew up with Manwich. For years we've been using the seasoning packet and a can of undrained diced tomatoes with green chilis. It's really yummy that way, but the other day I couldn't for the life of me track down […]

Just a quick blog tonight. I am fighting some sort of virus and not really in the mood to blog...but here I am! We've had a busy few weeks and have enjoyed time with our family. I was able to spend almost an entire week with my sister's family and attended our church women's retreat for the first time. I had a wonderful time with our company a […]
The girls both particpated in our school's talent show earlier this month. The theme was pirates which was originally not something Claire could embrace. Eventually though, she came around and enjoyed herself. She joined a group of Kindergarteners in reciting a collection of good-bye poems at the very end of the show. She was not nervous at all and did […]
Valentine’s Day is a GREAT to day to tell our volunteers how much we love them. We decided to include our parents and go all out to share the love. This is the artwork for the balloons. We ordered a ton and filled our hallways. Balloons make everything more festive and make a big impression on kids and volunteers. All of our staff will wear this t-shir […]
Brian and I have had the amazing privilege of writing at two different sites this week. It’s good we’re writing somewhere… cuz we’ve been neglecting our own blogs. Oh well… c’est la vie. Anyway… I hope you get a chance to go check out Brian’s guest post (at RefineUs.org) and mine (at LeadingAndLovingIt.com). H […]
Just an update… I am alive. And I’m not abandoning blogging. I turn in Desperate on March 1st (finally signed my contract with Thomas Nelson-yes, it took that long, but I’m grateful for the opportunity) so of course I’m writing. I’ve also been spending quite a bit of time soul-searching, figuring out my “calling”, p […]
Tonight my little boy became a big boy. He has glasses. Here are some pictures. Enjoy!! After we got home and he had eaten some oreo’s, this is what he looked like on the couch. He kept the glasses on all evening. I’m so proud.
Unlike last year I have chosen to largely avoid the subject of Black History month (for many reasons), but if you would like to read those post please click here. I did want to talk a subject that I did not have the opportunity to address last year and I feel is truly important to [...]
Monday’s article reminded me of my first plane trip with my oldest daughter. She was nine months old and I was a blissfully naive new mommy. We were flying from Virginia to Montana to see my family. I was so excited to get there that I booked the earliest flight they had (mistake number one). This... [read more]

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter. Proverbs 25:2 There’s a reason God’s will in specific situations is so difficult to know sometimes. There’s a reason that not everything is black and white. It can be difficult to discern God’s will for a lot of situations. Who to date. Where to go [...]
#1 – My study of God’s Word/theology are leading me to greater levels of arrogance rather than greater levels of love, care and compassion for other people. (John 5:39-40!) #2 – I desire to have conversations about people far from God but actually don’t have a heart to see them converted to Christ. (As was the [...]

I figured now would be a good time to post a blog. You know, the day of a chemo treatment, after my flippin’ facebook won’t let me post a status, and after Brian just sent me a sad cancer story about a woman who may only have months to live. AWESOME. There are some days [...]
The words hurt, cut like a knife. My heart beat outside of my chest as I let her cloud of disappointment cover me. Hurting people hurt people. She felt like I let her down and so she let me down. The accusations still ring. This online space is a tricky place. I’ve spent four years [...]You Will Be Disappointed In Me is a post from: We are THAT Family […]
